I was thinking about the characteristics of a leader that we discussed in class yesterday.
We talked about having a vision as one of the important aspects of being a leader. I think, in addition to having a vision, the leaders are also people who have delivered results in the past. The inspiration or motivation for people to contribute towards the leader's vision is probably also based the leader's past success in execution of a vision.
So my question is how do leaders work in a new environment where they do not have a record of success?
Thank you
best regards

I left class last night inspired. I think that was the first time that a guided visualization outside of a yoga studio worked for me. The funny thing is that my last Aha! moment sort of lead me to this class. I definitely feel like I am in the right place at the right time. I am looking forward to next week already. Thanks Hal and Julie!
Hi
After I left the lecture last monday, was there some points that came to me regarding Kotter, that might also be useful for you Regu.
First of all do I not think that Kotter is not saying either leadership or mangement. He is saying that managers should do both. But he also claims that to many managers is spending too much time managing instead of leading. According to Kotter should managers use 10-20 percent on managing and 80-90 % on leading.
Regarding your problem Regu, then he also claims some other interesting thing. His first point in his 8-step model is to create a burning platform or a sence of urgency and then to create a vision. It is about EXPECTATION and not the record. Carl Weick has written books on this and they really make sence once you understand it. They are a bit difficult to get through though. Hope that you can use it.
